Opposing Chris Long's Call for Genocide and War Crimes

Yesterday, as President Trump was negotiating peace with Iran, an elected Michigan Republican Party vice chair was publicly advocating for mass genocide and war crimes.

Michigan Republican Party grassroots vice chair Chris Long wrote a post on his Facebook calling for the mass murder of millions of Iranian men, women and children, claiming – without a hint of irony – that their lives mean nothing.

The post that he later deleted (hopefully out of shame) can be seen here:

President Trump is well known for using deliberately provocative language as leverage in negotiation. Anyone familiar with his style understood that he was signaling overwhelming American power, not casually endorsing indiscriminate slaughter as Mr. Long did.

That matters for more than moral reasons, though the moral failure is serious enough on its own. Reckless talk about mass killing creates resentment, invites blowback, and burdens the American people with the consequences. And when this country is drawn toward foreign conflict, the people who bear the cost are the young Americans sent to live with the aftermath.

Young people voted Republican in 2024 in larger-than-expected numbers believing that the Party would put America First. They were repeatedly assured that there would be no new wars and we would focus on taking care of people at home. If the Iranian conflict escalates as Mr. Long apparently hopes it would, it is the youth of America — not morbidly-obese bloviators — who would be on the front lines.

In recent months, youth support for the Republican Party has plummeted. Additionally, Republican support from independents has evaporated as well. Without these key demographics showing up to vote in the midterms, Republicans are doomed. President Trump’s negotiated ceasefire with Iran is a step in the right direction of bringing these crucial groups back into the MAGA coalition.

Mr. Long's remarks were severely counterproductive to President Trump's goals. They were wrong in substance, wrong in judgment, and wrong in spirit. No party officer should speak as though innocent men, women, and children are disposable. This is not merely a disagreement over tone. It is a question of fitness. Mr. Long’s remarks were beneath the office he holds and beneath the standard Michigan Republicans should accept from anyone claiming to represent the grassroots.

The Grand New Party PAC calls for a repudiation of Mr. Long’s comments from all Republicans in the state of Michigan and the immediate dismissal of Mr. Long as Michigan Republican Party Grassroots Vice Chair.
